Gala Success!

The Future of Nursing West Virginia Awards Gala held Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the University of Charleston was a big success.

The event was a culmination of 3 years of dedicated work of three organizations who were charter members of FONWV.

In May of 2013, the leaders of these three organizations partnered to form the the Future of Nursing WV. Those leaders were: Jim Kranz, WV Hospital Association, Lou Ann Hartley, President, WV Organization of Nurse Executives and Aila Accad, President, WV Nurses Association. These three “co-leaders” then signed a contract with the Campaign to Champion Nursing in America, a partnership between AARP and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, to implement eight recommendations put forth by the Institute of Medicine Report on the Future of Nursing (2010). After dinner and a beautiful slide presentation about the history of nursing, the Awards Ceremony began. The evening recognized the Operations Team of Aila Accad, Pamela Alderman, Lou Ann Hartley, Jim Kranz, and Cassy Taylor. Team Leaders were recognized as well: Peggy Coster-Leadership, Toni DiChiacchio-Modernizing Nursing Laws, Mary Fanning-Transition to Practice, Ron Moore-Education, and Cynthia Persily-Advisors. Champion Advisors recognized included: Laura K. Boone, Will Carter, Dan Foster, MD, Paul J. Gilmer, Betty Ireland, Gaylene Miller, Jane Ruseski, Kim Tieman and Edwin H. Welch. The Future of Nursing WV supported the applications for two National Awards. They were proud to recognize Angela Gray, Berkeley County Health Department Director of Nursing as 1 of 25 nurses from across the country selected as a Public Health Nurse Leader by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Dr. Laure Marino, DNP, APRN, Nursing Director, Primary Care Center @Process Strategies was recognized as 1 of only 10 nurse chosen to receive the prestigious Culture of Health: Breakthrough Leaders in Nursing Award sponsored by the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action. Sponsors for the evening included: Presenting Sponsor – WVU Medicine Gold Sponsor – Coventry Cares of WV Silver Sponsors – Cabell-Huntington Hospital and CAMC Health System Bronze Sponsors – Logan Regional Medical Center, Sizewise, & Unicare Health Plan of WV, Inc. Jim Strawn, from Highland Hospital in Charleston, WV served as the Master of Ceremonies.
