Substance Abuse Nursing

Drug abuse is rising in the United States. According to the CDC, in 2015-- alone-- more than 15,000 people died from opioid overdose. Drugabuse.gov reports that 80% of those addicted to opioids first took an opioid as a prescription. But this isn’t something I have to explain to you. If we want to curb the addiction epidemic, we have to work together and look for help from the experts.

Nurses play a vital role in diminishing this crisis. And they are a part of all stages of substance abuse care. Nurses educate on how to prevent substance abuse, look after and help those in treatment, and take care of those in recovery.
